State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the United States should waive its groundless containment and suppression on China and cooperate with China to tackle challenges as the international community expects.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark when meeting with Global Co-Chair of Asia Society John L. Thornton in Beijing.
To realize stable and sustainable development of China-US relations, Wang said the US should first establish a correct recognition of China, adhere to dialogue instead of confrontation, keep with win-win cooperation instead of zero-sum game.
Noting that the leaders of both countries have reached an important consensus on guiding principles of bilateral ties during their meeting in Bali, Indonesia, Wang said the US side should translate US President Joe Biden's positive remarks into concrete actions and return to a pragmatic China policy.
Faced with one after another regional hotspot issue and global challenges such as climate change and the energy crisis, Wang said China and the US, as responsible major countries, should set an example by carrying out necessary cooperation.
China is open for dialogues at all levels with the US and welcomes face-to-face exchanges with Thornton and other members from US industry and commerce, strategic and academic sectors to facilitate mutual understanding, he said.
Thornton said that the US and China should be strategic partners of cooperation. He also expressed his willingness to keep playing a role for facilitating American people's comprehensive understanding of China and promoting the development of US-China ties. |
