To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries, a readers' exchange meeting on Qiu Shanshan’s book Spring Grass was held in Japan on Nov 5.

As an event of the Chinese Literature Readers' Club in Japan, the meeting was sponsored by the China Writers Association and organized by the China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd.

Focusing on Spring Grass, the guests held exchanges on topics such as translation, China's urban and rural development and changes, and Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges.

Qiu shared what inspired this book and Spring Grass’ significance via video link. She hoped all women who have a hard life can live a good life through their efforts.

More than 30 distinguished guests and local readers, such as Yoshimi Tokuda,Kazuyuki Sumida,Takeo Yoneyama,Toshio Kishida,Takaya Kato, and Masanori Nakano, all translators and reviewers of the Japanese version of Spring Grass, participated in the activity.

Wang Yuyan, director of the overseas business center of the China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd., said it was very meaningful to hold this event at the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations. She hoped more Japanese readers would pay attention to and fall in love with Chinese literature, and more contemporary Chinese literature would be translated into Japanese to enhance the mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between the two peoples.
