As Hutt International Boys' School's annual Chinese Week launched, the China Cultural Center in Wellington visited the school on Aug 22.
Zuo Ruoyan, a teacher from the center, gave five classes on the traditional Chinese musical instrument guzheng (Chinese zither) to about 70 students at the school.
The teacher introduced the history of the instrument and played two popular songs: Believer and Monsters.
Alvin Wood, a student from the school, showed a strong desire to go on studying the instrument.
"I am fond of the guzheng's sound, it's very melodious," the young man said.
According to the center director Guo Zongguang, 2022 marks the 59th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand. The center will promote Chinese culture around the country in the coming September.
