Altini Natacha Goumbri from Burkina Faso, a student at Wuhan University in Wuhan, Hubei province, had an unforgettable birthday this year.
Over 30 staff members of an expressway construction project in which Goumbri is getting a month of training celebrated her 23rd birthday with her on Wednesday, moving her to tears.
Goumbri is a junior student majoring in engineering management at the university's School of Civil Engineering. Another two students from Africa are being trained during the expressway project, doing jobs such as quality inspection and keeping daily records.
Dressed in red safety helmets and reflective vests, they leave for the project site at 8 am every day. Measuring the space between concrete bars and getting familiar with modern construction tools and scaffolds, the overseas students work hard.
"By practicing on the site, I have come to understand some words that I didn't understand at class," said Ouedraogo Franck Aristide K from Burkina Faso.
Special training plans for the students have been made and experienced engineers have been appointed to tutor them, said Wu Huizhong, technology chief of the project.
Working as a construction engineer has long been Goumbri's dream.
"I will use what I learn in China to build my country after graduation in a year. And I will try my best to promote the friendship between China and Africa," she said.
