Editor's note:According to an action plan issued by Shanghai authorities, the city's shopping malls, supermarkets, pharmacies, and bookstores are prohibited from offering customers disposable plastic bags starting on Jan 1. As stricter plastic regulations have been implemented across the nation, are you ready to say goodbye to plastic bags? Readers share their opinions.

For me, it's better to take a bag myself than to use the plastic bag. Plastic bags, plastic boxes are widely used nowadays. Maybe it's time that we stop using it. Say no to plastics bags.

The action is admirable, but if it is indiscriminate, will it backfire? I am only suggesting that we "control" the use for the sake of the environment, but totally ban it? I am not sure I can do that....

If you are found with plastic bags when you arrive at the airport, you will be provided with paper bags for replacement. Plastic bags are banned nationwide in Rwanda! I don't know if it is the only country to ban the plastic bags, but we really need to learn something from it.

No, I will not say no to plastic bags, because till now there is no other recyclable material or other substitute that can replace it. I can only do my best to decrease the quantity of the bags that I used in daily life, I can't assure I will not use it again. Nowadays, maybe nobody can say no to plastic bags, even the environmentalists.

I bring my own bag when I know I am going shopping. But sometimes I stop at a store on my way home from somewhere, and I have no bag. If I buy one or two small things, I just put them in my purse or carry them in my hand. But if I buy a few things, I use their plastic bags. In the US it is common to have paper bags as an option. Some say paper is also a huge strain on the environment though. The best option is to bring our own reusable bags.
