This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Over recent decades, this southeastern Chinese city has grown into an innovation center from a fishing village, with GDP totaling 2.69 trillion yuan ($399 billion) in 2019, surpassing Singapore and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

With more than 17,000 national high and new technology enterprises, the city's high and new technology industry boasted an output value of 2.6 trillion yuan last year.
