"My new school is very big, with beautiful buildings. There are extracurricular classes and I am learning dancing for the first time," said Chen Lina, a fifth grade student from the Tongle Township Central Primary School in Leye county in Baise, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The 11-year-old student transferred to the new school when it opened in September, last year from a village primary school when she moved from the village to the town with her parents.
The new school was built to replace three primary schools which were located in remote mountain villages as villagers have been relocated to town by authorities in an effort to improve their livelihoods.
The construction of the school started in 2017 with an investment of 131 million yuan ($19.31 million) and it was put into use September last year.
The school now has 38 classes and 1,820 students, 702 of whom are from poor families.
