Zhang Jiacheng has a determination that has won many admirers. On court, he holds court. His basketball skills have gone viral. To use the vernacular, the language of the sport, he can wiggle (easily pass defenders), he can put 'em on skates (make defenders look sluggish) and make it rain (fire shots from all angles).
He is also inspirational. "I want to be a basketball player, playing more games and letting more people know me," Zhang says.
He lost the lower half of his right arm in an accident at the age of 5. Now, the 14-year-old boy from Yunfu city, Guangdong province, has gone viral for his mind-blowing basketball skills in a video clip on Sina Weibo.
In the clip of a head-to-head battle, Zhang does a crossover dribble with one hand, outmaneuvers his opponent, who is taller and stronger, and makes a shoot, driving the audience crazy.
His practice and game videos at home and on the court have been viewed about 32 million times on Sina Weibo. Some Weibo users found his story inspiring, commenting that "God knows what he has been through."
Below his clip, Chinese Basketball Association's all-time leading scorer Yi Jianlian commented that "the heart is always the strongest part of the body''.
Zhu Fangyu, general manager of nine-time champions the Guangdong Southern Tigers, said that "this is the best child I have ever seen in basketball. I invite him to visit our team. When the CBA season resumes, please come and watch our home games''."
On Saturday, the invitation came true and a dream was realized when Zhang visited the Guangdong training camp, meeting Yi and Zhu. He took a photo with Yi and was given a signed jersey and basketball as a gift.
In a one-on-one battle, he even played with Xu Jie, 20, from the Guangdong team.
His outstanding skills have also wowed NBA stars.
Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors, one of Zhang's favorite basketball players, posted on Thursday that "who is this kid? Help me find him! Keep doing it and don't let anyone tell that you can't."
Zhang responded in excitement. "I will try harder".
Curry posted a video on Friday saying that "Jiacheng, you are an inspiration? I am rooting for you! Jiayou''.
Under his Douyin account with 16 videos released so far, NBA star P J Tucker of the Houston Rockets commented, "keep it up young man." Portland Trail Blazer star Damian Lillard praised his skill. His Douyin account's cover image is a poster of his idol, the dribbling master Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets.
Zhang's former coach Ou Jiazhi at the No 23 Basketball Training Center in Yunfu says that Zhang has caught the attention of scouts and the Guangdong Basketball Association has contacted him.
"There will be a larger platform for Zhang to play on," Ou says, adding the boy has exceptional talent.
"Every one knows him now, but few realize the efforts that went into his skills," Ou adds.
"He is a quiet and shy boy, but on court he changes to another person," Ou says.
Born in December 2006, Zhang lost his arm as the age of 5 but quickly adapted and learnt to use his left arm and hand.
At 12, he began playing basketball. The sport became his passion and dream. But initially he found even the simplest moves difficult.
"Things that make you a better person mean you may feel uncomfortable during the process," Zhang wrote in his latest Douyin video.
Every day, he plays basketball after school with friends no matter what the weather. Within two years' practice, he broke three basketballs.
"The sport makes me happy and confident. When I touch the ball, I cannot take my hand off," the teen says.
His PE teacher Liu Binglan told local media that Zhang is strong-minded and hard-working.
"You make me proud," his father Zhang Beiha, who is a decoration worker, says.
Just like what he wrote in one of his Douyin video, "Give it a try, or give it up". He chose to keep trying.
The teenager's favorite basketball players are Irving and Curry, who are among the best point guards in the NBA.
Zhang's family has been contacted by a number of multi-channel networks who want to build the teen into an internet celebrity.
Preferring a simple and peaceful life, his father turned down these offers and responded that he hoped that his son would study hard and play hard on court.
