Dozens of artifacts reflecting Chinese American history were donated to the Overseas Chinese Museum of China in Beijing recently.

The artifacts include old photos, posters, newspaper clippings and postcards from the late 19th century, showing the daily life of Chinese workers and scenes of Chinatown in San Francisco.

The artifacts were donated by Anita Lee, wife of the late mayor of San Francisco Edwin Lee (1952-2017), and several Chinese American collectors.

Lee was the first Chinese descent mayor of the city.

Among the donated items, there is a special baseball jersey, which was given by the Major League Baseball team San Francisco Giants to Lee, on which his name is sewed.

Speaking at the donation ceremony in Beijing, Anita Lee said: "When he was alive, my husband once said he would continue to help enhance the China-US relationship after retirement from office.

"I will continue his mission."

The donation was organized by Zhao Sihong, a Chinese American author and philanthropist.

She said that so far more than 5,000 artifacts on Chinese American history have been donated to more than 30 museums all over China.

The group of donors also went to the Beijing Olympic Museum earlier, and an Olympic torch, which was held by Edwin Lee during the 2008 Beijing Olympics torch relay in San Francisco, was donated there.

More artifacts will be donated to the National Museum of China, according to Zhao.
