BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- French President Francois Hollande has said he hasn’t ruled out military action against Syria. He made the remarks on a live program of the French television channel TF--ONE.
Hollande said a political and diplomatic solution to the Syrian conflict is possible. But he insists the option of military strikes remain on the table.
He said, "We can now seriously think about a diplomatic and political solution. But I want to make it absolutely clear that the military option must remain. Otherwise there won’t be pressure. I hope that it can be imposed by the UN Security Council."
Hollande’s comments come ahead of talks with the US and the UK foreign ministers in Paris on Monday. Hollande, John Kerry, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and British Foreign Secretary William Hague will attempt to agree on a draft resolution that would set out how Syria can secure and destroy its chemical stockpile.
Hollande says a UN vote on the resolution may be possible by the end of the week.
