BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Rescue operations in flood hit northern India have resumed following a major halt brought about by heavy rains.
Indian authorities had earlier stopped the rescue operations on Sunday as the northern state of Uttarakhand was hit by heavy rains. Nearly 75,000 people have so far been evacuated from the state. An estimated more than 22,000 people still remain stranded.
Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who visited the area on Saturday, said that all those stranded would be rescued in the next two days. However, the Indian weather office on Saturday predicted more rainfall in the state by Monday.
