BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhuanet) -- A tornado has ripped through the farm fields of Smith County, in the US state of Kansas. The tornado follows a devastating one that ripped through Moore, in the neighboring state of Oklahoma last week.
Storm chasers Brandon Ivey and Sean Casey tracked the tornado along its path. Driving inside a "Tornado Intercept Vehicle" or TIV, the two witnessed the tornado’s fury. Ivey said winds whipped the vehicle at speeds of up to about two-hundred-forty to two-hundred-eighty kilometres per hour. He shot the footage from inside the TIV2 on the 20th of May.
During the storm, one of the vehicle’s doors blew open and the top hatch also blew open, but the TIV2 stayed on the ground. The TIV2 is a modified Dodge Ram 3,500 platform, giving it six wheel drive capability. Four hydraulic drop down skirts block wind and debris from getting underneath the vehicle and flipping it over.
