Japan recalls ambassador to S. Korea
(Xinhua)   2012-08-11 11:15:23

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- In reaction to the South Korean President's visit to the dispute islets, Japan has recalled its ambassador to South Korea. Japan warns the move will worsen already strained relations between the neighbouring countries.

Koichiro Gemba, Japanese Foreign Minister, says, "Historically and under international law, Takeshima is Japanese territory. President Lee’s visit to the islands conflicts with our position and we strongly oppose it.

When the issue is still in dispute, we’re not sure why this visit must take place now? It’s unacceptable. We’re temporarily recalling Ambassador Mutoh from the Japanese embassy in South Korea, in protest at the move.

We’ve informed the South Korean ambassador in Tokyo that we have no choice but to take appropriate measures."
