China has vowed to maintain economic stability and a relatively fast economic growth in 2012, amid the "extremely grim and complicated" global outlook. The comment came in a statement following the close of the three-day central economic work conference in Beijing. President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao made keynote speeches during the meeting. | Photo released on Dec. 14, 2011 shows Chinese President Hu Jintao attending the central economic work conference in Beijing, capital of China. The statement says the meaning of stability is to maintain a steady macro-economic policy, relatively fast economic growth, stable consumer prices and social stability. The government promises to seize what it calls a "strategically important development period", to transform the country’s economic development model, deepen reform and improve people’s lives. And it confirmed its stance on regulating property markets next year, to ensure housing prices return to a reasonable level. The country will also maintain a prudent monetary policy and proactive economic policy.
