(2)热带气旋一种巨大而旋转着的湿热空气团，其直径约为100 km或更大。按照发生的区域和最大持续风速，热带气旋具有种种名称。例如，在北太平洋西部，最大持续风速在17~32m/s的热带气旋称之为热带风基和强热带风暴，而最大持续风速在33m/s以上的热带气旋则称之为台风。 热带气旋对核电厂造成的危害，主要是暴雨和(或)涌浪引起的洪水、狂风的猛烈冲击作用和气旋造成的飞射物的撞击作用。 用以作为设计墓准的热带气旋是可能最大热带气旋.这是一种假想的平稳状态的热带气旋。确定这种气旋风场所需的气象因素是:气旋的最大风速、最大风速半径、风眼压力和流人角，以及气旋相对于海岸线的运动方向和平移速度。
