性质:白色晶体粉末。密度4.0g/cm3。熔点2015℃。沸点2980℃。莫氏硬度8.8。不溶于水。难溶于酸。一般不被化学药品侵蚀。可由水合氧化铝经1200℃灼烧制得。硬度仅次于金刚石和金刚砂。可用于制轴承、砂轮、实验器皿等。刚玉是天然的α-Al2O3,因其中含有少量杂质而有不同颜色。人工高温烧结的氧化铝称人造刚玉,可耐1800℃,常用作高温耐火材料。高纯氧化铝与少量着色物如氧化铬(红色)或氧化铁(蓝色)混合,经高温熔融可制得人造宝石,用作钟表和精密仪器的轴承及装饰品。
