【勘查】保险人接到投保申请或保险人的出险通知后派人实地调查了解有关情况的一项工作。勘查工作根据其性质分为承保前对投保标的的勘查和出险后理.赔中灾害事故现场的勘查，而理赔的现场勘查根据实施人的不同又可分为承保人自己的勘查和由他人进行的代勘查。承保前的勘查，指保险人接到投保人的投保申请后，往往要深人到投保标的座落或存放地进行调查和检验，以掌握投保标的危险程度等有关情况，从而确定是否符合承保条件和选择适用的费率。这是防止投保人逆选择和产生道德危险的重要保证。灾害事故现场勘查，亦称出险现场勘查，指保险人在接到被保险人的出险通知后，深人灾害事故现场进行实地调查，了解出险时间、地点、原因、保险标的及第三者的损失情况以及采取必要的应急措施等。如果保险人距出险地点较远或因其他原因不能迅速赶到现场进行勘查时，应委托当地或附近的查勘或理赔代理人或其他的有关检验机构代为勘查，以便及时掌握出险情况和减少不必要的损失。对一些出险原因和损失情况实为复杂，特别是技术性很强的现场，有时还要委托专业技术人员或专家协助检验和鉴定。
