用多孔材料制成、孔隙中贮有润滑油的滑动轴承。多孔材料和润滑油的热膨胀系数不同,故工作时油从孔隙中被挤入摩擦面,停止工作时油又随温度下降被吸回孔隙。含油轴承具有成本低、能吸振、噪声小、在较长工作时间内不用加润滑油等特点,特别适用于不易润滑或不允许油脏污的工作环境。孔隙度是含油轴承的一个重要参数。在高速、轻载下工作的含油轴承要求含油量多,孔隙度宜高;在低速、载荷较大下工作的含油轴承要求强度高,孔隙度宜低。含油轴承的材料主要有多孔金属和多孔塑料两类。用多孔金属制成的含油轴承,按基体材料不同分为铁基和铜基。前者承载能力高,但容易与钢轴产生胶合;后者许用速度较高,但价格较贵。含油轴承使用的多孔塑料为热固塑料,如尼龙、酚醛树脂等。多孔塑料含油轴承表面很软,不易损伤轴颈,允许有较大的同轴度公差,但强度和刚度比多孔金属含油轴承低、承载能力小、热稳定性和导热性差。为改善多孔塑料的这一缺点,可将塑料层厚度尽量减薄,用金属背衬来支承塑料薄层。
