c4的名称由来是每个单分子结构里有4个碳。是一种高效的易爆炸药，由梯恩梯（tnt）、semtex和白磷等高性能爆炸物质混合而成，可以被碾成粉末状，能随意装在橡皮材料中，然后挤压成任何形状。如果外边附上黏着性材料，就可以安置在非常隐蔽的部位，像口香糖那样牢牢地黏附在上面，因此被称为残酷"口香糖"。c4塑胶炸药原产捷克，现在美国也是主要生产国。这种炸药能轻易躲过x光安全检查，这一点是恐怖分子喜欢使用的原因。未经特定嗅识训练的警犬也难以识别它。
