结构式为CH3(CH2)5CH3，分子量100.21。无色透明液体。相对密度(20 ℃／4℃)＞0.6594，凝固点-90．6℃，沸点98．4℃．闪点-4℃，燃点215℃，折射率1．38512，粘度(20 ℃)0.4mPa·s，溶解度参数δ＝7．4。能与乙醚、丙酮、氯仿、苯和石油醚混溶。不溶于水，可溶于乙醇。极易燃烧，蒸气与空气形成爆炸性混合物，爆炸极限1．2％-6．7％(vol)。低毒，具有刺激和麻醉作用．空气中最高容许浓度1600mg／m3(或0.04％)。
