心滩
位于河心的浅滩,与复式环流作用有关。在河床突然加宽处,由于河水流速降低,在河底受两股相向的底流作用,于是,发生了侵蚀两岸,而在河床底部堆积,逐渐形成心滩。每当洪水期间,心滩就增大淤高,顶部覆盖了悬移质泥沙,发展成经常露于水面之上的江心洲,又称沙岛。江心洲比较稳定,但通常由于洲头不断冲刷,洲尾不断淤积,整个江心洲很缓慢地向下移动。由于心滩和江心洲的发展,使河流分汊,河床不稳定。在一定的条件下边滩和心滩可以互相转化,它们也都可能发展成河漫滩的一部分。我国黄河中下游河床宽浅,含沙量大,心滩和江心洲十分发育。
