有关中国传统图案的专著。雷圭元(1906～ )著。上海人民美术出版社1979年出版。《中国图案作法初探》研究了中国图案朴素、夸张等艺术特征和意境表现，并对中国传统图案结构形式中的太极图形、以光明为主题的冏形图案等，作了专门研究。作者认为，太极图形是以动人的艺术反映事物本质的美，是一虚一实、有无相生的核心运动；冏形图案是历代图案创造中的基础，是光的意境和表现；中国传统图案的布局以九宫格为基础，并遵循平视体、立视体等构图法则。书中载有大量传统图案图例，并对照说明中国传统图案作法的原理和艺术特色，图文并茂。
