【大德】
 (术语)梵云婆檀陀Bhadanta,原为称佛之名。在律中则为比丘之称。唐时有临坛大德之称。是敕任者。释氏要览上曰:“智度论云:梵语波檀陀,秦言大德。”毗奈耶杂事十九曰:“年少苾刍应唤老者为大德,老唤少年为具寿,若不尔者得越法罪。”僧史略下曰:“德号之具其来远矣!魏秦之世翻译律本羯磨文中族曰大德僧。(中略)诸传纪私呼僧中贤彦多曰大德,非国朝所辅也。(中略)大历六年辛亥年,四月五日,敕京城僧尼临坛大德各置十人,以为常式。有阙即填,此带临坛而有大德二字,及官补德号之始也。宪宗朝端甫为引驾大德,此带引驾为目。宣宗大中四年六月降诞日,内殿禅大德辩肇二人,此带禅学得名。”四分戒本序曰:“诸世尊大德,为我说是事。”戒疏一上曰:“七佛非一曰诸,宇宙无上曰世尊,行满位高曰大德也。”
