И.Π.巴甫洛夫根据每个人两种信号系统活动的相对优势而划分的人的神经活动类型之一。思维型者第二信号系统的活动占优势。巴甫洛夫说:"有的人第一信号系统的活动占优势，而有的人则第二信号系统的活动占优势,这样就把人分为艺术性的与纯粹理智或抽象性的。"在现实生活中纯属于某种神经活动类型的人是少数，故思维型和艺术型都是神经活动的极端类型，大多数人属于两种信号系统维持均势的中间型。巴甫洛夫的学生在许多实验中进一步证实了他把人分为不同神经活动类型的意见。能对词加以适当反应，而在用词所标志的对象代替词的场合下，就不能很好反应的人，可能属于第二信号系统活动占优势者；对直接刺激物比对相应的词的反应定向更好的人，可能属于第一信号系统活动占优势者。但是不能认为哪种神经活动类型更优越，它只表明人的大脑对客观世界反映活动的个人特点。
