  吊兰,属百合科多年生常绿草本植物。根肉质,叶细长,似兰花。吊兰叶腋中抽生出的匍匐茎,长可尺许,既刚且柔;茎顶端簇生的叶片,由盆沿向外下垂,随风飘动,形似展翅跳跃的仙鹤。故吊兰古有折鹤兰之称。

  吊兰,叶簇生,似花朵,四季常绿,是著名的观叶花卉,被人们誉之为“空中花卉”。据研究,吊兰具有吸收有毒气体的功能,一般房间养有一盆吊兰,空气中由吸烟及建材散发出的有毒气体,即可吸收殆尽,起到净化空气的作用。吊兰的根和全草可入药,具有清肺`、凉血止血等功效。

  吊兰每年3-6月间,匍匐茎上会开小白花,花不惊人,但可结籽,留作繁殖用。吊兰常见的栽培品种有:叶子边缘黄色的金边吊兰、叶子边缘白色的银边吊兰、叶子中间黄白色的玉心吊兰等。另外,吊兰还有狭叶吊兰与阔叶吊兰之分。阔叶吊兰的叶子有1.5-2.5厘米宽,长15-45厘米,匍匐茎少。
