The establishment of "modern Chinese verse" has provided a stage for the probable development of the poetic pattern for new verse.

As a kind of modern Chinese verse,new verse can be approached in such a perspective.

Against the background of the modernization process of Chinese culture,this paper aims to explore the formation state and self-construction of new verse under three types of nomenclature: vernacular verse,free verse and modern Chinese verse in terms of the conflict between literature and the epochal spirit as well as its inherent evolution.

Compared with verse studies of his contemporaries, Hu Huaishen’s study of modern verse is more systematic and more comprehensive, for his views on the reciprocal change between modern minor verse and traditional Chinese verse as well as their respective origin has exerted an extensive impact in the old and new literary camps and has thus led to much controversy.

For Chinese modern verse, rhyme is a question which has been discussed but hasn t been completely sovelved.
