精神卫生(mental health)亦称“心理卫生”。以往认为仅是指精神疾病的预防、治疗和康复而言，即狭义的精神卫生。目前人们对于健康有了更高的要求，健康不单是指没有疾病，而且还要有良好的生理、心理状态和社会适应能力。广义的精神卫生则是以提高全民的精神健康水平为}」标，促使社会成员充分自信，胜任仁作，具有高度的责任感和使命感，积极进取，受人信赖，坚韧不拔，善于与人共处和共事，遵纪守法，勇于克服困难，对人友爱和善，不计较得失，宽容大度，爱好广泛，有幽默感。有的学者强调社会和环境对人们心理健康的影响，认为应将贫困、失业等社会心理因素以及人与人或集团之间的对立、紧张等因素考虑在内。精神巨生涉及的领域及对象注一分广泛.包括不同年龄阶段如儿童、青少年、成人、更年期、老年期的精神卫生保健，以及不同群体如家庭、学校和工矿企业等的精神卫生。我国于1985年重新组建了中国心理卫生协会，1987年创刊了 《中国心理卫生》杂志。各地分会逐步开展了精神卫生咨询服务和精神卫生知识的宣传普及。为了广泛开展心理卫生活动，需要制定精神卫生法，成立精神卫生机构，组织医疗、教育、宣传部门共同完成规划。 (赵亚忠撰刘协和审)
