又称“第十对脑神经”。人体行程最长、分布最广的一对混合性脑神经。自延髓橄榄体后方出脑，经颈静脉孔出颅，在颈部沿颈总动脉和颈内静脉之间的后方下行，进入胸腔后则沿食管下降，经膈的食管裂孔进入腹腔。含有：①副交感纤维，由自主神经中枢传出冲动，调节胃肠等的平滑肌、心肌、腺体的活动。②运动纤维，支配软腭和咽喉肌的运动。③感觉纤维，向中枢传入胸腹腔脏器的感觉刺激。
