化学式KBr。无色立方晶体;熔点为734°C,沸点为1435°C,密度为2.75克/厘米3(25°C);易溶于水,100克水中0°C时溶解53.48 克,100°C时溶解102克。溴化钾应避光密封保存。溴化钾可用铁溴法制备。先让溴与铁屑反应生成Fe3Br8·16H2O,再与沸热的碳酸钾溶液作用:
