The present study tries to describe and discuss how Chinese EFL children learners’ pragmatic competence develops at the social interchange level, speech act level and interchange-speech act combination level along with their L2 grammar competence which develops gradually.

It is found that the development of learners’ grammatical ability in terms of a growing number of linguistic forms they can draw upon and the gaining knowledge about vocabulary and tense contributes to the development of their L2 pragmatic competence since it has much to do with the expanding of the range of interchange types, speech act types and pragmatic flexibility.

The essay is to point out that the formation and dev elop ment of conceptual organization shows how one s L2 lexical competence should de velop.
