发明(i nvention)指创造出新的事物或新的方法。其对象可以是新物质、新设备、新方法，也可以是对己有设备、方法、物质创造出新的用途。在我国，是指重大的科学技术新成就。1978年国务院修订的《发明奖励条例》规定，发明必须具备三个条件:前人所没有的，先进的，经过实践证明可以应用的。规定发明属国家所有，发明人有获奖励的权利，国家对发明实行精神奖励和物质奖励相结合。对新的、水平较高的、能在实践中制造的产品或使用方法，可授予发明专利。 (租烟撰吴万森审)
