电力负荷在1天24小时内变化的曲线。 负荷的变动与供电设备输出的功率直接有关。由于电工设备都能经受得住瞬时的过负荷，因此对瞬时的过负荷，除特殊情况外，一般不予重视，而只需考虑某一时间内的平均负荷。这一时间通常取15分钟、30分钟或一小时。以这一时间内的平均电功率作为该时间段的负荷功率，用有功功率（千瓦）来表示。有特殊需要时也可以作负荷无功功率（千乏）的日负荷曲线或视在功率（千伏安）的日负荷曲线。这样常用的日负荷曲线是作成阶梯形的曲线，而不是作成光滑的或锯齿形的曲线。
不同行业的有功功率日负荷曲线差别很大。三班制连续生产的重工业(如钢铁冶炼业等),曲线很平坦,最小负荷达最大负荷的85％ (图1)。一班制生产的轻工业（如食品工业等）负荷，曲线变化幅度较大,最小负荷为最大负荷的13～14％（图2）。农业负荷中，农产品加工每天用电仅12小时；但在夏季出现的农业排灌负荷，却有相当平坦的日负荷曲线。市政及居民生活负荷曲线的特点是有明显的照明用电高峰(图3)。
