Taking case study of some main cities in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, this paper gives an account and analysis of the design idea and typical method reflected in the course of remodeling and renewing waterfront in Nordic cities.

This paper introduced the practical experiences of European cities for creating regional characteristics with the open space, and summarized their design strategy and method to maintain the distinctive features, which is of positive value for the current urban construction in China.
