重症监护病房最重要、最必要的设备之一。大多数监护仪由阴极射线示波器、心电记录器、压力检测器、呼吸检测器、体温检测器及计算机处理系统组成。患儿的心电活动经心电导联传入监护仪,血压经压力传感器转变成电能后输入监护仪。呼吸活动则由呼气与吸气时胸腔电阻改变经心电导联与心电活动同时传入监护仪。监护仪的加工处理系统能将来自病人体内之电活动信号放大后经微型电子计算机处理转变成波形及数字,借光电显示系统(light electric display,LED)显示于阴极射线示波器的屏幕上。
