与土麦冬区别在于纺锤状肉质块根较大，长2．5—4厘米。叶片较宽，宽线形，多少带镰刀状，长13—60厘米，宽0．6—2厘米或更宽，基部渐狭成柄状，有9—11条脉。花茎连花序长25—80厘米；总状花序花多而密，长10—30厘米；花3—8朵簇生。花朗7—8月，果期9—10月。
产本省各地，野生山坡林下阴湿处，有栽培；分布山东以及华东、中南、西南各省区。块根药用与麦冬功效相近，但质量较差。
