   自然界赋存的已查明的和推定的富集能量的资源,这些资源已证明在经济上有开发利用价值,或在可预见的时期内有经济价值。可分为不可再生能源和可再生能源。前者包括煤、石油、天然气和核燃料;后者包括水能、生物质能、太阳能、风能、地热能和海洋能等。经详细勘测,可用现有技术开采的能源资源为能源储量。
    据世界能源委员会发表的《1992年世界能源资源调查》,1990年世界各种能源资源和开发利用情况如下:
   ①煤炭。烟煤和无烟煤可采储量5214亿吨,次烟煤和褐煤5177亿吨,总计10391亿吨;烟煤和无烟煤年产量33.14亿吨,次烟煤和褐煤14.35亿吨,总计47.49亿吨。还可开采219年。
   ②石油。原油可采储量1348亿吨,天然气液26亿吨,合计1374亿吨;原油年产量30.16亿吨,天然气液1.03亿吨,合计31.19亿吨。还可开采44年。
   ③天然气。可采储量128.85万亿米3;年产量21350亿米3。还可开采60年。
   ④铀矿。31个国家开采成本每千克80美元以下的141万吨,80~130美元的67万吨,合计可采储量208万吨;年产量3.18万吨。还可开采65年。此外,前苏联可采储量有68.6万吨,印度6.6万吨,中国5.1万吨。
   ⑤水能。理论蕴藏量34.69万亿千瓦·时(KW·h),可开发水能资源13.97万亿KW·h;1990年装机总容量598吉瓦(GW),发电量2133太瓦·时(TW·h)。
   ⑥地热能。装机总容量6000兆瓦(MW);发电30TW·h。
   ⑦风能。装机总容量2500MW,其中美国1600MW。
   ⑧潮汐能。理论蕴藏量2200TW·h,可开发资源200TW·h;已开发600GW·h。
   中国拥有丰富而多样的能源资源。1991年,1500米深度内的煤炭预测储量为32000亿吨,探明储量9667亿吨;石油预测储量787亿吨;天然气预测储量33万亿米;可开发水能资源380GW;已发现地热点4000多处;可开发风能资源约260GW;可开发潮汐能资源在20GW以上。
