Nano-crystalline yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) powders were prepared by the co-precipitation method using Al(NO3)3·9H2O and Y(NO3)3·6H2O as raw materials, the NH4HCO3 as precipitator, and (NH4)2SO4 as dispersion medium.

化学组成为AlO(OH)、 晶体属正交(斜方)晶系并结晶成α 相的氢氧化物矿物。与结晶成γ相的软水铝石成同质多象。旧称水铝石或一水硬铝石。晶体通常呈薄片状,具平行片状方向的完全解理;集合体呈疏松块状或细鳞片状。白、灰白或无色,含杂质时可为红、褐等色。玻璃光泽,解理面显珍珠光泽。性极脆。摩斯硬度6.5~7,比重3.44。硬水铝石主要是外生成因的,广泛存在于铝土矿与红土中。也见于结晶灰岩、白云岩和某些热液矿脉中。著名产地有俄罗斯乌拉尔、捷克谢姆尼茨、瑞士坎波伦戈、希腊纳克索斯岛等。中国山东淄博地区也有产出。硬水铝石主要用作耐火材料,也用来炼铝。
