高灶窑址在石湾镇日用陶瓷三厂镇岗南风灶西侧,因地处高庙(即福善祠)之背后,故称。龙窑是陶业生产之基础和必不可少的产业,石湾的窑户、陶工历来十分珍视,以至比之为煮饭的炉灶,要吃饭非窑灶不可,是故石湾人称龙窑为“灶”。该灶始建确切年代不详,其建窑位置较南风灶为理想,且毋需加筑石坎,因而始建年代似比南风灶要早,应是明代沿用至今的古龙窑。窑之形制及坡度与南风灶近似,窑向正南,左侧设窑门四,右侧窑门三,窑内结构如园拱券顶隧道,以小型砂砖砌成。窑膛平面略呈船底形,总长38.25米,窑口、中段及窑尾宽度分别为1.85米、2.25和2.2米,内通高1.80-1.95米。窑顶厚约0.25米,窑面原有42排火眼,建国后改为33排,除窑口一排3个外余均5个火眼。明清时期该窑为陶业大行“水巷大盆行”的专业龙窑,历来以煅烧大盆类产品为主。对研究制陶史及古代煅烧工艺有重要价值。2001年被公布为国家重点文物保护单位。
