蜂群(honeybee colony)蜜蜂的社会性群体。是蜜蜂自然生存和蜂场饲养管理的基本单位。一个蜂群常由l只蜂王、万只以上工蜂和千百只雄蜂组成(彩图1，2)。雄蜂一般只在群体需要时期存在。蜂群各具独特气味，各群间有严格的群体界限。在自然状态下，工蜂具有排斥他群工蜂和蜂王的特性，蜂王之间也互不相处。 蜂群的强弱取决于工蜂的数量。蜂种不同，其生物学特性不同，群势也不一样。中蜂强群达三四万只，意蜂强群可达五六万只以上。同种蜜蜂的不同蜂群，因蜂王质量不同，群势差异显著。如处于繁殖盛期的同场意大利蜂蜂群，有的可达五六万只，有的仅两三万只。同一蜂群，在不同季节，受蜜粉源、气候等条件的影响，群势也相差悬殊，一般冬季和早春蜂数少，厦季蜂数多。群势是决定蜂群采集力的主要因素之一。强群是获取高产、稳产的基础。(张其康)
