现代农业(modern agrieulture)用现代工业、现代科学技术和管理方法装备起来的农业。是按农业生产力的状况而划分的农业发展的最新阶段。 农业现代化的进程开始于20世纪初叶，在第二次世界大战后有显著发展至60一70年代，世界上的发达国家在工业现代化的基础上，先后实现了农业现代化。农业的现代化过程，也就是农业生产手段、农业生产技术和生产管理的现代化过程。农业生产手段现代化，包括以现代农业机器、设备代替人畜动力和手工畜力农具，实现农业的机械化、电气化:在现代科学理论与方法指导下，对土地加以保护和改良，使其肥力得以不断提高;用现代科学方法培育和改良农作物及畜禽品种，以提高其生产效能。农业生产技术现代化，包括在生物学、物理学、化学等现代科学的基础上发展起来的农业生产技术广泛地应用于农业生产实践。在现代生态科学指导下，建立良好的农业生态平衡，也是现代农业的基本内容之一。农业生产管理现代化，广义而言，包括农业生产专业化、社会化、农业的适度规模经营和农工商一体化，还包括系统工程和电子汁算机等现代管理手段的广泛应用。现代农业要求生产劳动者具有较高的文化科学知识和技能，熟练掌握现代化的生产手段、生产技术和生产管理方法，并把三者密切结合起来运用到农业生产实践中去，以发展农业生产力。随着科学技术的日益进步和工业的发展，现代农业的水平在不断提高。20世纪70年代以来，大马力高精度的机器、航空作业、卫星遥感、原子能、激光、电子计算技术、人工气候装置、生物工程、全价配合饲料、复合肥料等在农业生产和管理中的运用，标志着现代农业正在走向新的发展阶段。 (毕宝德)
