①玛旁雍错位于冈仁波齐峰东南20公里处，海拔4588米，是世界上海拔最高的淡水湖之一，面积400多平方公里。唐代玄奘在天竺取经记中也称，此湖是西天王母瑶池之所在。
历来的朝圣者都以到过此湖转经洗浴为人生最大幸事。其实，玛旁雍错作为圣湖之王的地位，即便仅对一般旅游观光客来说，也是无可置疑的。
玛旁雍错在藏语中意为“永恒不败的碧玉湖”，起因是11世纪在湖畔进行的一场宗教大战，结果，藏传佛教噶举派大胜外道黑教，“玛旁”就是纪念佛教的胜利，此湖因而得名。
交 通：一般旅客会以即乌寺边的一条小村庄为落脚点，位于大金东南30公里，从神山前往，如非包吉普车，就只有在大金或者到巴噶检查站等便车，价格在30-70元不等。至于如何前往神山，可详见神山的交通。
住 宿：靠在即乌寺山脚的小村，有两间由藏人经营的无名字旅店，住宿每位收费20元/人。这小村由10间土屋组成，没有饭馆，南面的旅店提供素菜白饭，每顿10元，最好带方便面或干粮，店内有火炉和燃烧用的牛粪，可自行煮食。
转 湖：圣湖周围约60公里，转湖需时2天，顺时针方向，需带备食物，除第二晚要在野外度过外，沿途均有寺庙可供住宿。沿湖边远足虽然不及转神山的山坡那样艰巨，但却会出现溪涧的挑战，当路上遇到河流溪涧时，只能淌水而过，试想象，这等雪山流下来冰水要是浸及腰部的话，感受会怎样。
