Based on the interpretation of the three-time authorial narrative intervention Byatt adopts in the Victorian historical narrative level in the novel Possession,this paper explores,in the course of the postmodernist reconstruction of Victorian age,the necessity of the third-person narrator\'s intrusion into the historical narrative and thus aroused intriguing aesthetic effects.
