Based on narrating the regression theories of least squares support vector machine (LS- SVM), a feature extraction method based on LS- SVM was presented and introduced into the field of quantitative analysis of the comprehensive competence of the can- didates who were to attend the undergraduate electronic design competition(UEDC).

After an introduction of present situation of the national undergraduate electronic design contest and the author s many years practical experience in organizing and training for the contest,the significance of this contest in developing students innovation and the practical measures in implementing this contest in their innovativeness development were discussed in this paper.

In the process of instructing the 2005 National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest to complete the F topic "The Digital Controlled DC Current Source".

According to the current situation of the specialty of electronic information engineering of our university, combining the experience of participating National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, how to reform this new specialty to fit in with the needs of the society is discussed in this paper.
