性质:简称代谢。是维持生物体生长、运动、繁殖、排泄等活动中的化学变化的总称。通过代谢,生物体同环境不断地进行物质和能量的交换,其方向和速度受各种因素的调节,以适应生物体内外环境的变化。它包括分解代谢(catabolism,或异化作用)和合成代谢(anabolism,或称同化作用)两个方面。前者是指生物通过相应的酶系将外界营养物转化为能量和氧化为简单的代谢产物;后者是指生物通过另一类相应的酶系将前者分解的能量和简单的代谢产物合成为复杂的细胞或生物物质。分解和合成代谢往往非一步,而需要多步才能完成,且随环境不同而变化。代谢由酶催化,具有复杂的中间代谢过程。代谢失调会产生疾病,代谢一旦停止,生命也就终止。
