      鳞翅目(Lepidoptera)尺蛾科(Geometridae)昆虫。幼虫取食油茶树叶,常使油茶树早期落果,造成重大损失。食料欠缺时,也取食油桐、乌桕、茶树等树叶。
  
  成虫枯灰色,体长14~20毫米,翅展30~36毫米。前翅狭长,外线和内线隐约可见,较翅底色略深,后翅外线较直。卵近圆形,细小,初产时草绿色,以后逐渐变为黄褐、黑褐色。老熟幼虫体长50~60毫米,黄褐色,杂有黑褐色斑点,头顶中央凹陷。蛹圆锥形,棕褐色,体具细点刻;头部细小,有两个角状突起;腹末两侧具两个小突,有分叉的臀棘一根(见图)。分布于中国湖南、湖北、江西、广西、浙江、福建、贵州、四川和台湾等地。一年 1代,以蛹在油茶树干基部周围土内过夏越冬,翌年2月中、下旬羽化、产卵,3月下旬孵化。幼虫共6龄,5月下旬至6月上旬入土化蛹,入土深度一般为15~33毫米。幼虫期55~58天,蛹期252~271天。雌蛾平均寿命6.25天,雄蛾4天;昼伏夜出,飞翔力弱,无趋光性。雌蛾大多数交尾一次,交尾时间多在凌晨2~3时;雌蛾对雄蛾有明显的性引诱现象。卵呈块状产于树枝的阴暗面或枝叉处,卵块表面覆盖褐色茸毛,雌蛾产卵量412~1234粒。初孵幼虫有群栖性,嚼食嫩叶的表皮和叶肉,2龄后开始分散取食,食叶成缺刻,3龄前食量较小,4龄后食量逐渐增大,6龄幼虫食叶量最大。幼虫爬行时身体一伸一缩,农民称其为"量布虫";静止时,后足紧抓树枝,口吐细丝,使身体斜竖,形如枯枝。4龄前幼虫受惊时常下垂脱逃。防治方法主要是幼虫 3龄前可用化学药剂;用苏云金杆菌防治;或组织人工捕捉。
