通过炉底风嘴鼓入空气，将炉内铁水直接炼成钢的一种转炉炼钢法，由发明者的姓而得名。贝塞麦法靠鼓风（风压达2.5大气压）中的氧,使生铁的杂质（主要为硅、锰）和少量铁氧化，并靠氧化放出的热量使钢水温度升高到出钢的要求。贝塞麦转炉炉衬为硅质耐火材料，由于无法造碱性渣以去除生铁中的磷、硫，而使它所用的原料来源受到限制，现已被淘汰。
