人体上1/4的淋巴道引流入颈淋巴囊,大约在孕40天时,其开口进入同侧颈静脉。连接不好则发生淋巴瘀积而形成本序列征。颈后有淋巴囊,造成颈部有多余的皮肤,还造成低发际,发流改变或耳下部突出和上翘。由于末梢淋巴瘀积造成皮下组织淋巴水肿及皮肤过度生长和重叠。指尖垫突出,窄凸的指甲深到爪基上。因淋巴引流不畅,静脉系统体液增多,造成静脉大。身体下部1/4淋巴管流入髂淋巴囊,如引流不畅也可造成下肢或生殖器淋巴水肿。如髂淋巴囊膨大,可能表现腹部膨大。从静脉系引流后,多余的腹部皮肤可形成杏干样腹。胎儿中晚期如颈淋巴囊与颈静脉未接合,为致死原因,如接合即遗留窦状颈皮,皮肤重叠成褶,面部明显。出生时淋巴仍有淤积,可遗留手足肿大。此序列征并非特异性,许多疾病也可发生此种淋巴阻塞。
