| 星图 star atlas 将天体的球面视位置投影于平面而绘成的图，表示它们的位置、亮度和形态。它是天文观测的基本工具之一。星图种类繁多，有的用来辨认星星，有的用来证认某天体（或天象），有的用来对比发生的变异等等。有的星图只绘出恒星，有的星图则绘出各种天体。按使用对象分，有的供天文工作者使用，有的供天文爱好者使用。近世出版的星图按出版形式分为图册和挂图。
14世纪以前的星图，只有中国保存下来。三国时代，吴国陈卓在270年左右将甘德、石申、巫咸3家所观测的恒星 ，用不同方式绘在同一图上，有星1464颗。此星图虽已失传 ，但从绢制敦煌星图上可知其大概。苏州石刻天文图是根据北宋元丰年间的观测结果刻制的。《新仪象法要》中所载星图绘制于1088年，但所依据的观测结果与苏州石刻天文图相同。望远镜发明以后，欧洲较早的星图是赫维留所编《天文图志》中的54幅星图。赫维留的星图经弗兰斯提德重新修订，于1725年再版 ，绘有2866颗星 。1863年出版的《波恩星图》 是早期著名的星图。 星图上一般有坐标，大多数星图用赤经、赤纬。也有使用黄道坐标的黄道带星图，这种星图对于观测黄道光、对日照十分方便。也有使用银道坐标的银河星图，用于研究银河系恒星分布等。各种星图的历元也各不相同，如1900.0、1950.0、2000.0。星图上最暗天体的星等为其极限星等。有的星图用不同颜色表示有关特征。此外，还有各种射电巡天图，红外、紫外，X和γ等波段巡天图，以及各种气体星云图、星系图集等等。 |
