生产过程管理以最佳的方式将企业生产的诸要素、各环节和各方面的工作有效地结合起来，形成生产系统，以最少的耗费，取得最大的生产成果和经济效益。工业企业的生产过程，一方面是原材料、能源、设备工具、劳动力等生产要素的不断投入，另一方面是工业产品和工业性劳务的不断输出。企业生产输出的产品，有的可能是完整的、能直接消费的最终产品，有的可能是需要继续加工或装配的中间产品。工业产品的生产过程，指从准备生产该种产品开始，直到把它生产出来为止的全部过程。它一般由基本生产、辅助生产、生产技术准备、生产服务等部分组成。工业企业生产过程是一个复杂的系统，生产过程管理的目的就在于使这一复杂系统具有以下特点:①连续性。产品在生产过程中始终处于运动状态，通过各环节、各阶段、各工序时，在时间上能紧密衔接。②平行性。生产过程中各项活动、各道工序，凡是在时间上同时交叉进行的必须组织平行作业。③协调性。生产过程中各阶段、各工序之间，在生产能力上保持一定的比例关系，各生产环节的工人人数、设备数量、生产速率等都能满足生产的要求，并保持相互协调。④均衡性。企业及其各个生产环节的工作，都能按照计划进度进行，保持负荷和产品出产的相对稳定，不发生或高或低、前松后紧的现象。
