    铋元素符号Bi,原子序数83,原子量208.98,外围电子排布6s26p3,位于第六周期第ⅤA族,共价半径152皮米,离子半径Bi3+120皮米,Bi5+74皮米,第一电离能703.3千焦/摩尔,电负性1.9。银白色或微红色有金属光泽的晶体,熔点271.4℃,沸点1560±5℃,蒸气分子中单原子分子和双原子分子处于平衡状态。主要氧化数-3、+1、+3、+5。色的无定形锑,黄色的黄锑,黑色的黑锑等。锑化学性质不很活动。室温下不能被空气中氧气氧化,但能跟氟、氯、溴化合生成三价或五价卤化物。加热时可跟碘、硫化合。高温时燃烧显蓝色并生成Sb4O6。常温时不跟水反应,红热时跟水反应放出氢气。跟热硝酸反应,生成水合氧化锑:
    6Sb+10HNO3+3xH2O=3Sb2O5·xH2O+10NO↑+5H2O
    能溶于热的浓盐酸和硫酸生成氯化锑和硫酸锑。与强碱反应生成亚锑酸盐,主要用于制合金如印刷用的活字合金、硬质合金、巴氏合金。还用于制锑盐、医药、颜料及半导体材料等。古代已应用锑及其化合物。在自然界中有游离态和化合态两种形式存在,主要矿物有辉锑矿(Sb2S3)和方锑矿(Sb2O3)。在地壳中的丰度为1.0×10-4%。用辉锑矿跟铁屑共热,或用三氧化二锑与碳共热都可还原出锑。
